The IDEAS Short-term Intensive Counseling program is an opportunity designed to give professional Christian Counselors and Psychologists the opportunity serve two to five weeks with IDEAS in North Africa in partnership with See Beyond (

The purpose of the program is to invest in the emotional, mental, and interpersonal well-being of native English speakers serving cross-culturally. Clients are individuals, couples, and families in the non-profit, professional, and diplomatic sectors.

Program participants will learn about the work of our partner organization and will have a counseling schedule in one or two sites. Trust-building, networking-type activities in each new community will be part of the Counselors assignment. Counseling will be intensive in nature, meaning counselors will meet with clients daily for one or two hours per day. Counselors may be asked to provide proactive emotional, mental, and interpersonal well-being seminars.

  • Masters in Professional Counseling or in Marriage and Family Therapy
  • Current valid license to practice
  • Experience in integrating secular and Christian counseling approaches and methods
  • An ability to build rapport and trust quickly
  • Previous cross-cultural experiences abroad is preferred
  • Willingness to respect and adapt to the customs of another culture
  • Ability to travel independently in a new city using taxis, and to stay in a modest standard of hotels or homes.

$1600 (for 2 weeks)

  • Program costs are based on a single person and include accommodations, food, local transportation and program development costs.
  • Required expenses that are not included in the Program Cost include round trip airfare, international insurance, visa costs and cell phone capabilities.
  • Discretionary expenses include personal expenses and spending money.
  • Fundraising coaching and training is available for an additional $700.
