Global Reach Libraries (GRL) is an IDEAS project and exists to see people in forgotten and overlooked communities grow in imagination and curiosity, expand their intellectual horizons, and find hope through access to quality information and transformational literature in well-developed libraries.  We reach this goal by providing expertise to library projects in these communities, so that librarians are equipped to develop imaginations, spark curiosity and plant seeds of hope.

Are you passionate about making the quality resources of a library easily available to community members?

Are you a “cataloging geek”?

Do you get excited about good subject-headings and logical call numbers?

This short-term opportunity with Global Reach Libraries will help the local library staff in several new or recently automated libraries catch up with their cataloging backlogs.  While they have been trained and are slowly working on entering resources, their first priority is always helping their users and dealing with the day-to-day tasks of running a library, and so uncatalogued resources languish on shelves or in boxes and are inaccessible to students and teachers.  Trained librarians coming to focus on cataloging will help them catch up and also be available to answer their questions about cataloging.

  • Experience cataloging library resources using an online library system.
  • Basic knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System.
  • Basic familiarity with standard library cataloging protocols such as RDA and/or MARC.

$1400 for 2 weeks

  • Cost includes housing, food, in-country transportation, visa and program fees
  • The cost does not include round trip airfare, international medical insurance or spending money
  • Fundraising training is available
  • If you wish to go for shorter/longer, please email for an approximate budget
