Pediatric Therapy in China: Volunteer for two weeks and help transform the lives of orphaned children!

IDEAS partners with an organization that is seeking to provide ongoing care for special needs children. This orphanage is looking for experienced professionals who can help the children continue to develop and progress.

Located approximately 250 miles southeast of Beijing, the project exists to give hope to children with special needs who have been orphaned or abandoned, neglected by their families and society. This special program uses a three-pronged approach to address these needs: community care, prevention and training. Short term rehab and medical teams work together with a dedicated group of people from the community to care for, educate and emotionally enrich the lives of these precious orphans.

In February of 2014, 20 children aged 3-12 years with intellectual and physical disabilities were assessed for the first time in their lives. Personalized care plans were put together and the children’s care givers were given training on how to implement the plans. The project will reassess the children, review the care plans and do intensive refresher courses for the caregivers every 6 months. The first of these reviews will be in September 2014 and we are seeking specialists to enable this. Additional reviews will be every 6 months.

Because of the early success of this project, we have been invited to do trainings with wider orphanage staff. Successful applicants will be required to run these trainings on topics based on the applicant’s field of interest but tailored to the current needs of the orphanage.
